Coons, Durbin, Hirono introduce patent reform bill

Today, U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) introduced the Support Technology and Research for Our Nation's Growth (STRONG) Patents Act with the aim of strengthening America's patent system and confront abuse. support technology and research for our nation's growth.

The STRONG Patents Act provisions include:

  • allowances for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to target firms abusing startups rather than invent anything;
  • ensuring pleading standards for patent-infringment cases match the standards used for all other civil actions; and
  • eliminating fee diversion from the USPTO.
