USIJ Statement on the Senate Small Business Committee Hearing on Patent System

USIJ applauds Chairman Vitter and the Senate Small Business Committee for holding this important hearing on the importance of the U.S. patent system to America’s small businesses.

Innovative entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses drive most of the disruptive
breakthroughs and technological advancement in the U.S. The creativity, exploration and passion that fuel these individuals and companies can only occur in the U.S. because of our patent system. It is unique and often held up as a model around the world. It is also the major reason the U.S. is considered a leader in innovation.

All companies start small, and it is critically important that Congress fully understand the role that strong patent rights play in incentivizing and driving the inventive process in America. This is what enables companies to push the envelope and drive our economy and society forward.
