On March 26, 2026, USIJ filed an amicus brief in Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation v. Unified Patents, LLC urging the Supreme Court to grant certiorari and reverse a Federal Circuit decision that leaves patent owners without recourse when IPR petitioners conceal the real parties in interest behind their challenges. USIJ argues that the Federal Circuit’s ruling nullifies the estoppel protections Congress built into the America Invents Act and opens the door to serial, anonymous attacks on valuable patents by deep-pocketed incumbents using surrogate petitioners.
